WELCOME TO THE WESTERN RESEARCH TRUTH SURVEY SITE

Over the past number of years, Western Research Institute, Inc. (WRI) has been conducting an informal survey on people's opinions of the definition of truth and what makes a thing or statement true.  The results of this survey indicated more than 90 percent of American adults cannot articulate a valid definition of truth and more than half believe that truth is relative.  It also indicated that more than a majority of women, educators, journalists and homosexuals tended toward the belief that truth was relative, that is, it depended on each person's perception, while it appeared more than a majority of lawyers, accountants and engineers tended toward the belief that truth was objective, that is, it depended on facts and the way things are in reality.

These are (to us) alarming statistics, but they were based on only some 200 responses.  The number of lawyers, accountants and engineers responding to the survey was skimpy and a determination of the percentage of this category leaning toward objective was not definitive.

It was determined that what was needed was a comprehensive formal survey of thousands of adults to determine if these were indeed reflective of the beliefs of the American electorate. And if so, these results would go to some extent towards explaining why there is so much intransigence in the U.S. Congress and among voters.  Therefore WRI has set out to survey thousands of adults to determine what citizens believe about the nature of truth and to categorize the results according to age, gender, education, occupation, political preference, religious affiliation and sexual orientation.

You are invited to participate in this survey.  Help us to determine people's understanding of the nature of truth and what makes a thing or statement true by filling out the following survey form.  As an incentive for filling out this survey form, you will receive immediate free access to the preliminary edition of Does The Truth Matter Anymore and to the results of the survey.
